Marketing is very key in business and is also a challenging aspect when starting out a business. Every business owner wants to find the right strategy to attract and retain potential customers.

A good marketing strategy will help you define the overall direction and objectives for your marketing.

In this article, I’ll be sharing 5 Marketing Strategies that will help boost your business.

Firstly, what’s a marketing strategy?

According to Investopedia, Marketing Strategy is:

A marketing strategy refers to a business’s overall game plan for reaching prospective consumers and turning them into customers of the products or services the business provides. A marketing strategy contains the company’s value proposition, key brand messaging, data on target customer demographics, and other high-level elements.

1. Use social media

Yes! Social media is the new wave in town and for your business to grow and to be recognized, it is very important that your business has at least a social media account that is active. We see a lot of businesses open social media accounts and don’t keep it running, there is no engagement on the page, inquiries are made in the comment section and DM but there is no one responding, that is not the right thing to do.

Produce relevant and valuable content for your audience, be consistent in your uploads, respond to inquiries promptly. And the good thing about social media is that you can run ads at affordable prices. Running ads will enable you to reach a wider audience and your target audience specifically.

2. Create video content

People like video content, it is an attractive, versatile, and an engaging content format. Create valuable video content that answers your target audience’s questions and needs, this will increase engagement and showcase your brand as a thought leader in your industry.

3. Get charitable

Being charitable is a great marketing strategy, as this will attract customers to your brand. People are naturally drawn or attracted to brands that help their community.

Giving back is a great way to build brand loyalty and trust. It shows that your business cares for its people (internal and external people).

4. Start a blog

Having a blog for your business is a great way to develop relationships with your existing and potential clients, connect your brand to people, generate leads, and ultimately increase sales. Write regularly about topics related to your industry and the solutions your business provides.

5. Have a Google My Business account

Another marketing strategy that will help your business is having a Google My Business account and optimizing it for search. Many people use Google today and they can easily find whatever they are looking for without having to visit a website. Google My Business is a powerful tool that can increase your revenue and can lead to improved customer trust and loyalty.

Conclusion

A good marketing strategy will help you define the overall direction and objectives for your marketing and without the right marketing strategies to fuel your growth, making a profit, and staying afloat is difficult.

At any point in time, there’s just about 3% of customers in the market that are ready to buy right now.

In this article, we’ll be sharing with you how you can capture a wider range of customers for your business.

In a previous article, we explained what The Buyer’s Journey is, and the 3 stages involved:

  1. The Awareness Stage
  2. The Consideration Stage
  3. The Decision Stage

In this article, we’ll be explaining how you can attract customers at the different stages of The Buyer’s Journey.

Before we dig in, as a foundation, here’s something you need to understand:

In attracting customers online, the principle is this: First give before you receive.

In each stage of the buyer’s journey, the idea is to provide value upfront to your potential customers.

To explain this, we’ll use an example of how a website design company will attract customers.

1. Attracting customers at the Awareness Stage

The Awareness Stage is the point where a person is trying to define what exactly their problem is.

At this stage, a service provider should help the customer understand what that problem is.

For a web design company, this would mean creating content with topics such as:

  • 21 Mistakes Business Owners Make on their Website, or
  • 5 Reasons why you’re not Getting Customers from your Website

These are educative resources (such as blog posts or videos) that will help a potential customer understand what their problem is.

2. Attracting customers at the Consideration Stage

The Consideration Stage is the point where the customer is contemplating possible solutions.

At this stage, the service provider should provide the customer with possible solutions to their problem.

This proves that the service provider is a “trusted authority”, and is able to help them.

Continuing with the example above, the website design company should provide resources such as:

  • A FREE checklist on the different things your website must have to convert customers online

3. Attracting customers at the Decision Stage

The Decision Stage is where the person has fully defined their problem, and is actively searching for a service provider.

At this stage, the service provider should provide content that compels the customer to choose them.

The website design company in our example should provide content such as:

  • Case studies
  • Testimonials
  • Product comparison
  • Request for free consultation
  • Demo

The key to attracting customers is to provide the right content at the right time.

  • A person in the awareness stage isn’t necessarily interested in seeing testimonials and case studies;
  • A person in the decision stage is not interested in reading more articles.

You need to meet people at the different stages of the buyer’s journey, based on the problem they are trying to solve at that stage.

The kind of content you provide may be videos, blog posts, or downloadable resources. Just make sure you are providing “value”.

This approach solidifies the customer’s perception that you are a trusted authority, and that you are capable of solving their problem.

Your Action Point

Think about who your customers are, and the kind of content or resources that they will need at the Awareness, Consideration and Decision stages of the buyer’s journey.

Think about the last time you bought a product.

There was a time you didn’t know that product existed or that service provider existed, and you ended up paying for it.

You went through something that’s called The Buyer’s Journey, even without being aware of it.

In this article, we’ll be sharing exactly what The Buyer’s Journey is, and how you can use this to increase your sales.

First, what is the Buyer’s Journey?

The Buyer’s Journey is the set of steps that a person takes from being a complete stranger to becoming a paying customer.

There are 3 major stages in The Buyer’s Journey:

1. Awareness Stage

2. Consideration Stage

3. Decision Stage

To explain this, we’ll use an example of a business owner, “Jane”, who isn’t getting results from her website.

1. The Awareness Stage

The awareness stage is where the customer realizes they have a problem.

At this point, they realize that there is something that needs to be fixed.

In our example: At this point, Jane realizes “I am not getting enough results from my website”.

2. The Consideration Stage

At the consideration stage, the customer is researching possible solutions to the problem.

At this point, Jane will naturally go online or start speaking with people to try and find out “why am I not getting customers from my website?”.

During this research process, she could find out:

  1. The website isn’t search engine friendly
  2. The website just doesn’t look good enough so people do not trust the business
  3. The content on the website is not compelling enough for people to take action

At the end of this stage, Jane concludes that she needs to redesign her website.

3. The Decision Stage

At the decision stage, the customer is looking for a solution provider or product to solve the problem.

At this point, Jane either starts speak with friends or asks online “do you know any really good website designer?”. She could also go to Google to search for “website design company”.

What do you think of The Buyer’s Journey? Do you have questions?
